Five Recommended Channels to Learn About Economics on YouTube

The offer includes from theoretical explanations to country analysis

The new media pose a novel form of education for both youth and adults. This is explained by the analysts consulted by LR when asked about the importance of applying platforms such as YouTube in different areas of life such as education, and in this specific case, learning about economic issues.

Precisely and according to data from Alexa.com, an audience measurement company owned by Amazon, the video platform is, after Google, the most consulted by Colombians in 2018, above Facebook and Wikipedia.

Santiago Roldan, an expert in technology and digital marketing, highlighted the fact, adding that "the platform has been in that place for three years."  In this sense, those who are interested in learning about economics, either as a way of preparing before starting a new career in this matter or with the intention of acquiring a greater knowledge of interactive forms, will be able to find different portals with proposals that contain from theoretical explanations from economies to reviews of global news from a simple economic analysis.

The consultant and digital strategist, Diego Santos, commented in this regard that “beyond the importance of people using these media to understand difficult and specific issues, it would also be important that either universities, governments or academic institutes create series of channels where this content is available, the difficult thing is to know that those who develop them are validators whose opinion is not biased, based on fake news or misinformation”.

Roldan thinks along the same lines and considers that "universities have to prepare to face this type of new learning vehicles".

The analyst argues that "classrooms are no longer the only place where people learn" and that YouTube, which already has specialized channels for children, music, among others "could create a specific channel for education at a time, which is not it would surprise”.

Regarding the possibilities of access to information, Santos commented that “people have the knowledge that there are all these new means of learning, however, what large institutions have not done is to organize it in one place. Make it easier for the user to find this material”.

Roldan believes that these platforms "not only find relevant content but also new proposals from people who are influencing everything that has to do with economics tuition, business administration, etc.”

Visual Politic is one of these channels and is surely among those dedicated to economic issues with the highest number of visits, reaching more than 85.1 million views of its videos. Javier Morales, an expert in technology, explained that channels like this have a great facility being Spanish-speaking and pointed out that “since Spanish is the second most common language in the world, channels on specific topics in this language can reach a greater public”.

The expert added that the success of these projects “depends, as in the case of Visual Politic, on the seriousness with which they do their job. Because they are new media, it is very easy to get into lightness that means fake news or wrong information”. In addition, he explained that "perseverance is another key when undertaking in these channels."
